In north carolina what is the law on expungement? can it only happen once? and is your record expunged at 18?

i recently got arrested for shoplifting. im 16 and my lawyer said i can only get one legal chance in nc to get it expunged. but i also heard that at 18 you entire record is expunged. whats tru and whats the real deal
